Neelu Tuli

Neelu Tuli, our founder president, was a visionary, a natural leader and above all the most wonderful human being who touched the lives of everyone she came in contact with during her lifetime. Driven by a genuine urge to help the needy and her ultimate belief that “No one should die of cancer due to lack of funds. she along with six other enthusiasts established Sahayta Charitable Welfare Society on 23rd May,1997.The team embarked upon a mission to light the lamp of hope, compassion and empathy in the lives of people suffering from cancer.

Neelu developed a team of highly dedicated volunteers who built credibility amongst donors and doctors, providing holistic support to cancer patients and ensuring that every rupee donated was used for the cause of providing support to the patient who needed it the most.

During her lifetime, Neelu  put Sahayta on the national and International map, striking affiliations with ICCCPO, International Confederation of Childhood Cancer Parents’ Organization and CACI, Cancer Care India ,thus opening the doors for international donations.

Ironically, Neelu was herself diagnosed with Stage 4 Cancer. She continued to fight for the cause with great courage till her last breath. Her last mission was to provide home for Sahayta in Sector 15 B,Chandigarh.

Today is a great day for Sahayta.I know now that Sahayta will keep on growing with the coming up of this building. All the volunteers have helped  me in whatever possible way they could for the growth of this society and also in my ordeal of fighting this disease.

During this period,I have come to some conclusions which I would like to share.First, everybody thinks that I cannot have cancer. This is not the case.Be prepared that anyone amongst us can have this disease, only then we can have early diagnosis…..otherwise it is very difficult to treat.Treatment of cancer is worse than its diagnosis. However, good diet and will power will get you through this period.

Cancer patients need empathy not sympathy.Counselling plays a very good and important role.I wish to have a proper counseling room and a qualified psychologist.music has helped me a lot.Lastly,I would like to say-

“Badal Jaye agar mali chaman hota nahin khali, bahaarein phir bhi aayengi, baharein phir bhi aayengi….
